The Sims team recently announced in a blog post that toddlers and pools will not be in the TS4 base game in September.
“And though pool building won’t be available in September, we do have a new Fountain Tool so you can create sophisticated landscapes. Whether you were a novice builder in The Sims 3, or an experienced pro, I really think you’re going to love The Sims 4’s build mode.”
“And while we recognize that some of you will be disappointed that pools and toddlers won’t be available when The Sims 4 Base Game launches in September, you should know that we’re building an incredibly strong foundation that is capable of fulfilling every one of your desires in the years to come. The future of The Sims 4 is bright!”
And to say most fans are outraged is putting it lightly. Here are some comments taken from the Sims 4 blog post.
“Thanks for at least answering some important questions. I have to say, however, that emotions are not AT ALL a justification for leaving out such important aspects of the game. By removing CASt, you alienated a large demographic of players who want control of customizing everything from floors and wallpapers to clothes to the hair and eye color of our sims. How could any of you actually look at our game pics and think it would be a wonderful idea to leave that out? By removing toddlers, you’ve alienated storytellers and legacy players. Have you even looked at our stories? Bad, bad move. I cannot possibly convey the depth of my disappointment in the way you’ve destroyed The Sims.”
“Keep your eyes open, fellow simmers, for the new Baby Life expansion pack for The Sims 4! A brand new life stage, toddler, will be introduced to The Sims series, allowing you to make weirder, crazier, more vivid and tactile stories than ever before! Give your toddlers unique personalities and aspirations, and experience their vibrant emotional states with new and interesting gameplay! Toddlers not enough for you? Pre-order today and receive the bonus Baby Clothes pack which will allow you to dress your new toddler! (We regret to announce that the changing table will not be included, but can be downloaded from the gallery for 2000 simpoints!) Get yours September 2nd after installing your brand new copy of The Sims 4!”
“I can deal with no Create a Style. I can deal with no pools. I can deal with loading screens. The game looked good enough that the new features still seemed to outweigh what was removed. However, the news about toddlers is honestly quite shocking.
I don’t know how I’m still surprised when EA does something disappointing…I just thought that toddlers were so important and basic that it was completely unrealistic to assume they wouldn’t be in the game. Clearly, I was wrong.
I will never underestimate EA’s capacity for mediocrity again.”
Aside from the unfortunate absence of toddlers and pools, other gamers have created a list of things we are (possibly) not getting in the base game:
- Completely open world
- CASt (Create-A-Style)
- Hair/Skin tone customization
- Unlimited number of lots
Many blogs and gaming news websites are only reporting the Sims’ community’s outrage over pools and toddlers, but are not including the fact that there are many other key features the Sims’ team has announced they left out of the game (the things I have mentioned above). Honestly the loss of toddlers and pools is just the straw on the camel’s back.
